Ultra Rapid's story
Felix, our founder was placed into the lowest ability group for all subjects, without explanation, despite having dyslexia and poor auditory processing speeds.
He had dropped out of two colleges, finishing with UUUD in his AS levels.
He realised he had internalised the belief that he was incapable, and painfully came to terms with the idea that he had wasted many years.
He began turning his life around and was building wearable training systems with a team of doctors.
Just as things were improving, his brother took his own life due to professional and personal challenges linked to Asperger’s and other mental health difficulties. In bereavement, he created a story about a group of superhero innovators who build a solarpunk city called Syntheia — a place where people like him and his brother could thrive and be happy.
He began pitching the series to people in film as a cognitive performance system, but it was misunderstood, and he was advised to study the neuroscience of music and storytelling to understand how they improve cognition.
He started building theoretical models for cognition and creativity, exploring how music links knowledge in our semantic networks and projects imagery into the mind’s eye.
He studied 50 years of neuroscience, psychology, and functional neuroanatomy, built business plans, and applied for funding to create Ultra Rapid. He then won a £100k research grant from Just Imagine If at the University of Reading, where a team of professors helped him refine the idea so it could be applied in schools using the curriculum’s specific knowledge.
He raised angel investment and formed a team to build Ultra Rapid. Schools began showing excitement and committing to co-developing the project, and the MVP of Ultra Rapid is set to launch at the end of 2025.
